Seven Of The Top Things To Do In Albuquerque, New Mexico

Oct 20, 2023 By Sean William

You may easily combine a visit to Albuquerque with a tour of other New Mexico attractions since the city is home to several of the state's top attractions. When we took a road trip across New Mexico, we had a blast seeing all the sights. New Mexico is the state that can satisfy the interests of a wide variety of tourists, from those interested in aliens at Roswell to those interested in Santa Fe and even the outdoors. That's why I'm writing to recommend some beautiful attractions in Albuquerque.

Celebration Of Flight In Albuquerque, New Mexico

Participating in the annual International Balloon Fiesta is among the most incredible things to accomplish in Albuquerque in early October. Hundreds of hot air balloons will be floating over the city for the biggest hot air balloon festival throughout North America, if not the globe. Experience the mass ascension, start riding the balloons (if you arrange this excursion), and witness some fantastic fireworks displays in 9 days during this event (which is incredible). Don't worry if you can't make it to Albuquerque in October; the city's Balloon Museum is open year-round. Inside, you'll find comprehensive coverage of ballooning from its earliest days to its present-day status as a competitive activity.

Petroglyph National Monument

The Petroglyph National Monument, home of New Mexico's most well-known petroglyphs, is located about 15 minutes outside Albuquerque. The petroglyphs, which date back hundreds of years, are visible from the paths that wind through this national monument on Albuquerque's Western Mesa, a volcanic cliff on the city's western edge. However, some of the paths are rather lengthy, so plan accordingly. We enjoyed the Rinconada Canyon Trail, although many more options exist.

Sandia Park

A trip to the top of Sandia Peak will reward you with stunning panoramas of the surrounding area. Although several trails (such as the Sandia Man Cave Trail and the Domingo Baca Canyon Trail) provide spectacular vistas of the area, we recommend using the tram. The Sandia Peak Tramway is an easy method to reach a height of almost 10,000 feet, providing breathtaking views of Albuquerque and beyond. These vistas are nothing short of breathtaking. Additionally, if you are a fan of winter sports, plan your trip so that you may enjoy Sandia Peak's ski slopes. In addition, you may rent equipment there and save on lugging it from home to Albuquerque.

Rattlesnake International American Museum

The Rattlesnake Museum, located in Albuquerque's historic district, is a non-profit organization that aims to protect rattlesnakes via public education and advocacy. This is an unusual museum where you can learn more about rattlesnakes and the ecosystems they help sustain, but it's not for the faint of heart. Afterward, go to The Candy Lady for some of the best fudge you'll ever taste. The Candy Lady is a treasure in Albuquerque, New Mexico, offering delicious treats such as caramels, chocolate, licorice, toffee, and brittle.

Museum Of Albuquerque

The museum is an excellent addition to your itinerary for touring Albuquerque. It houses hundreds of artifacts highlighting the history of the American Southwest and the greater Albuquerque area. And if you're lucky, you can see one of their exhibits showcasing contemporary masters like Frida Khalo and the Impressionists. Truthfully, you can spend an entire day here, so schedule accordingly. Visiting here is something you should take your time with. To make the most of your time in Albuquerque, schedule some of the city's excursions in advance of your visit.

Nature Center Of The Rio Grande

The Rio Grande Nature Center provides an accessible escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown Albuquerque. You'll get the chance to learn about the park's unique ecology and the environment once you arrive. Even though the park is relatively small (about 40 acres), several paths run through it and maybe readily be explored on foot or by bike. To provide just one example, the almost fifteen-mile-long Paseo del Bosque Trail may be easily accessed from the nature center. It's also close to the Petroglyph National Monument, so you can easily combine the two!

Cultural Center Of The Indian Pueblo

The Indian Pueblo Cultural Centre is one of the top attractions in Albuquerque, and it is run by the 19 Indian Pueblos of New Mexico. Visit the museum for a mural tour, read up on Pueblo Indian and New Mexico history, see traditional dance performances, and peruse old Native American pottery and paintings. This is a fantastic opportunity to get a deeper understanding of the significance of Native American heritage. The location, on the outskirts of Old Town Albuquerque, makes it an accessible destination.

Conclusion

Albuquerque represents one of the oldest and tallest inland cities in the United States. It is also home to some rather spectacular Hot Air Balloon activities. Then there's the incredible food and breathtaking views. Albuquerque is packed with exciting attractions.
